Beginners' Charcoal Chiaroscuro RECORDING

£10.50 £5.00

Youtube Link downloadable via pages after purchase (email soholifedrawing@gmail.com if you encounter any difficulties)

In this all new beginner’s class we’ll be learning how to shade using charcoal by focussing on chiaroscuro—the art of pushing light and dark values to their limits. Favoured by artists such as Rembrandt, Chiaroscuro is a way to create drawings and paintings with instantly dramatic tones, and is a good way for beginners to dive into the world of values.

Taught by Ann Mackowski, you can expect a detailed breakdown of drafting and finishing chiaroscuro drawings on charcoal using on-screen demonstrations and visual breakdowns of the figures we’ll be drawing--and by the end of class a newfound understanding of how to add drama to your work.

Please bring

£14.00 £5.00

Youtube link downloadable via pages after purchase (please email soholifedrawing@gmail.com if you encounter any difficulties)

--Warm and Cool Tones

Watercolour nudes are notoriously difficult, so if you're a beginner please don't worry--there's no judgement or grading here. The best way to learn is to approach the class as an exploration and learning experience--the more experiments you're willing to make the better artist you'll become!

Beginners' Watercolours: The Farnese Collection

£14.00 £5.00

VIDEO: Youtube Link Downloadable via Pages after Purchase

Painting from statues is one of the best ways to practice building form in watercolour nudes, and in this class, we’ll be using references from Naples’s National Archeological Museum to build our watercolour technique. Against the historic backdrop of the Farnese collection, a monumental aggregate of famous ancient works collected by one of Naples’ most powerful historic families, we’ll be looking at how the ancient Greeks and Romans revolutionised composition of the human form while creating beautiful paintings. You can expect to be painting for most of class time, with the historical basis of the class serving as a launching off point for artistic exploration. All levels welcome—this class is particularly well suited for beginners.

In this class we’ll cover

-History of the Farnese Collection

-The Human Form in Greek and Roman Statuary

-Shading and Form
