Who we areSoho Life Drawing is a life drawing group that runs classes by the hour every Monday and Wednesday between 6:15 and 8:30pm. We believe that creativity is essential to well-being, but is too often stifled by the demands of busy jobs, inaccessibility, or fear due to lack of experience. Located in one of London's most central locations, we provide a supportive place for anyone interested in exploring life drawing. With new models every week and a portfolio boosting mix of both short and long poses, we're a great fit for experienced artists and novices alike. Our members come from literally all walks of life and from all skill levels, so don't be afraid to drop by if you're an absolute beginner. At Soho Life Drawing, you are guaranteed to find a non-judgmental place to explore your artistic abilities. Drop ins are warmly welcomed. * We welcome both drawers and painters, and provide tables for those working in liquid mediums ** We receive a large amount of e mails from people concerned about their lack of experience, or questioning what to bring. All supplies are provided, and if you've never picked up a pencil before in your life--great! That's what we're here for! |
What is Life Drawing?
Life Drawing is the practice of depicting the human body in artistic form, using a model (usually nude) as object. Although sometimes artists attend life drawing groups to create a finished work, many use life drawing as a way to exercise their understanding of the human form. Animators, illustrators, graphic designers, dancers, fashion designers and even medics apply the practice of life drawing to their own profession. However, many people attend life drawing classes out of a purely personal interest in the subject matter. The human body is a perpetually fascinating machine, and the study of it appeals to visual thinkers from all walks of life.

What we offer
A Great Space
Our sessions are held at one of London's best kept secrets--the historic Quaker Meeting House, which provides an oasis of calm just minutes away from Leicester Square Station. Our room comfortably seats up to 45 people. We also provide several tables for people working in liquid mediums. (Getting Here) A Great Way to Learn--We begin each session with short, gestural poses and move up to a longer sustained pose. Our models are personally vetted professionals, and some of the best in the business. Our Guided 6:15-7:15 Class is a great way to get into the swing of things, and learn how artists use short and long poses in life-drawing to build up to a finished work. The 7:30-8:30 class allows members to continue to expand their drawing abilities with longer poses, and for beginners to get more one on one attention and more time for input at the end of the class. Our on- request 8:45-9:30 class allows members to branch out into unique compositions with model props. Supplies All supplies (A3 clipboards, graded pencils, sharpeners, rubbers, pastels, graphite etc...) are free to borrow with the exception of paper, which is 15p/sheet (A3). A4 notebooks are available for £2 and A3 notebooks for £3. Tea and Biscuit Break! Yes, that's right. We provide tea and biscuits during the break to keep your energy up! We break for 15 minutes after the first hour. Drop Ins Welcome There's no requirement to book in advance. Feel free to drop by! Ethical Hiring Life models are essential in the artistic community but are too often underpaid, or exploited by unscrupulous employers. We pay our models a 30% higher cut of our profits than RAM standard at no extra cost to you. |
