Dive into the world of watercolours with Ann’s new series of beginners’ classes designed to get you painting like a pro. Each week we’ll be taking a beginner’s eye view to a different topics in watercolour painting, and exploring the truly mind boggling amount of potential the medium has. No experience is required—we’ll be covering the basics each week so that you won’t feel like you’re missing out if you can’t attend every class. If you would like to attend the entire series, however, please book here to get one class free. 


We’ll be doing step-by-step exercises so you can expect to have a new painting weekly, and you’ll be sent a recording of the class once it’s finished so you can review techniques as long as you’d like.


January 11: Intro to Watercolours

January 25: Watercolour Portraiture: Light and Colour


In Brief: Create luminosity in your watercolour portraits through a deep dive into manipulating light and colour to your advantage. We'll be covering

--Creating Luminous Skin Tones
--Working with a Planar Reference


February 1: Intro to Watercolour Landscape Painting 


In Brief: Learn to paint beautiful watercolour landscapes with a few flicks of the brush. We'll be covering

-Creating foliage and textures with your brush
-Painting a complete watercolour landscape
-Colour Blocking 


Special Supplies: You may wish to bring a fan brush for trees


February 8: Intro to Watercolour Urban Landscapes


In Brief: An introduction to creating compelling urban scenes in watercolours. We'll be covering


-Drafting an urban landscape
-Creating reflectivity in street scenes
-Organising your light
-Adding people to your composition


February 15: Intro to the Watercolour Nude


In Brief: Learn to paint gorgeous watercolour nudes in this class which will cover form as well as colour and brush technique. We'll be covering 


--Beginners' volumes of the human form
--Beginners colour choices for nude watercolours
--Creating Believable Flesh Tones
--A Paint-Along Watercolour Nude


February 22: Egon Schiele Watercolours


In Brief: Study the techniques of the master, Egon Schiele, to create dynamic watercolour nudes. We'll be covering


--Schiele's Technique and Reproduction
--Schiele's Use of Colour and how to Apply it to your Own Work
--Creating your Own Schiele-esque compositions


Special Supplies: You may wish to bring a hogs bristle brush, black crayon, white chalk, or gouache (not necessary)

Watercolours (at least red, yellow, and blue: recommended, MaimeriBlu Primary Cyan, Primary Magenta, Primary Yellow, Shadow Violet, Burnt Sienna, Sepia)


Watercolour Paper (higher gsm/larger size preferred)


Watercolour Brushes
