Easy to recognise but harder to define, luminosity is is central to many a successful watercolour nude. In this class, we’ll be exploring what creates the illusion of luminosity; how to manifest it in watercolours; and how to use colour and tone to your advantage to create flowing watercolour nudes.
We’ll be covering elements of
-Laws of Light
-Colour Theory
-Brush Technique
-Drafting a Nude Painting
Before creating our own luminous, watercolour nudes.
The principle liquid watercolours we’ll be using in this class are Ecoline 374 (beige), Ecoline 381 (pink); Ecoline 580 (light blue), Ecoline 226 (light yellow), Ecoline 533 (Indigo), and Ecoline 416 (Sepia). Ecoline 258 and 390 are recommended. Please also bring watercolour paper, tape, a pencil and eraser, brushes, paper towels, and two cups of water. A hairdryer is recommended.
If you don’t have the exact colours, or would prefer not to buy new liquid watercolours—don’t worry! You can either dilute a large batch of tube or pan watercolours in a small jar, or use ink. Recommended mixtures: quadricone violet + yellow (gamboge recommended); cad orange medium and cyan (orange and blue).
