Shading and Chiaroscuro, Thursday 17th December
19:00-21:00 UK Time (11AM-1PM US Pacific) Thursday December 17th
*see below how to join
In this beginner friendly class we’ll be learning how to shade through the art of Chiaroscuro—pushing light and dark values to their limits. Favoured by artists such as Rembrandt, Chiaroscuro is a way to create drawings and paintings with instantly dramatic tones, and is a good way for beginners to dive into the world of values.
Taught by Ann Mackowski, we’ll be dividing some lovely figures into basic tones, and then pushing them a step further into Chiaroscuro—where strong lighting amplifies the contrast with backgrounds.
Feel free to bring pencils or charcoal. We recommend bringing at least one “B” pencil, preferably at a high number (so 3-8—basically the higher the number on your b pencil, the darker it is).
